Printing issues
(for TagIt or TagItLite)

I can print tags but some are cut off.
The barcode is not showing on the tags.
I am unable to print at all.
Report settings...have changed...

Tags do not print properly
Not all printers behave in the same way.  If some information is cut off or the bottom row does not print,  you may need to experiment with your printer properties to achieve the best results.  Generally these problems relate to how a printer deals with small margins.
Generally there is an option to change printer properties from the print form.  Possible settings differ from printer to printer.
Experiment with any "fit to paper" (generally better if not used) or "scaling" settings (generally better if 100%) or "minimize margins" (generally better if off) or "draft mode".
Experiment with "draft" or "regular" or "quality" modes.
Make sure the paper size is 8 1/2 x 11.
Look for tags where the description, size, or consignor number is taking two lines rather than one line.
If "Size:" is showing, try printing without "Size:".  Go to the Help menu at the top left, select Lookups, and then go to Size tab.  If "#" is showing with consignor id, try printing without "#".  Go to the Help menu at the top left, select Lookups, and then go to Settings tab.  Shorten the description if necessary.

A line seems to be cut in half with the top part printing and the bottom missing.
This might happen if you change the printer after the preview, i.e. if you are not printing to the default printer.  Make sure that the printer you want to use is set as the default printer by going to the Control Panel>Printers and right clicking on the desired printer and choosing Set as Default Printer.

Unable to print at all or "Unexpected General Protection Fault"
Rarely the program seems to "hang" and nothing seems to happen after attempting to print.  Then the TagIt program may close down or you may need to close it by clicking on the red X in the upper right of the program.  If you see any error messages, jot them down.  Some may get an error message such as "Unexpected General Protection Fault."  For some this happens occasionally.  For others it happens regularly.  .

If you experience a problem, you can try any or all of the following.  You will need to close and restart TagIt or TagItLite each time if the previous effort is not successful.

When I try to print (File->Print or printer icon) I get an error message such as "Unexpected General Protection Fault" and I have to close the program.  The print form does not even appear.
Is your printer name longer than 31 characters?  If so, try shortening the name.  In Windows XP go to Start menu, Control Panel, (Printers and Other Hardware) and Printers and Faxes.  Right click on the printer and select Rename.  In Vista go to Start menu, Control Panel, (Hardware and Sound), Printers.

The print form opens but when I click on Print the program locks up and I have to exit the program.
Restart TagIt or TagItLite.  Hopefully it will print the next time.
If that does not do it, close TagIt or TagItLIte and press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open the Windows Task Manager.  Go to the Processes tab.  Look for ctfmon.exe and click on it.  Then click on End Process.  The ctfmon.exe program may conflict with the printing process and ending the process will not cause other problems.  Start up TagIt and hopefully you will be able to print.  You may need to repeat this in the future again.  This seems to work for most users with Windows XP.  Need more help?

  Other things you can try:
Try printing without calling the printer dialogue.  Starting with TagItLite 1.0.4 right click on Create Tags.  Starting with TagIt 1.2.0 check No Preview before clicking on Preview/Print Tags.  This sends the print job directly to the printer without displaying a preview on screen.
Try printing to an rtf file in TagItLite.  When the tags are displayed on screen, go to File and select Publish to RTF.  Then use your word processor to open and print the file that is created.  The resulting tags may or may not be useable.
Try printing to a pdf and then print the pdf.  If you do not have a pdf writer, a free download is available from CutePDF.
    Can you use another printer

Error messages or warnings
"Report layout settings...have been changed within the print dialog...Would you like to continue?"

This is an annoying and unnecessary message that cannot be eliminated by the programmer.  Click "Yes" to continue.
